Names of Countries, Their Capitals and Inhabitants

The Head Office of Geodesy and Cartography in 1997 published the Names of Countries, Their Capitals and Inhabitants elaborated by the Commission on Standardization of Geographical Names Outside Poland. The new Internet version was approved and updated in relation to the previous publication, under resolutions passed by the Commission up to 29 October 2003.

The following amendments were introduced:

• Changes of the names of countries and capitals which occurred since then are taken into account
• Original forms instead of certain polonised names are now recommended
• The use of only one name for the same country is recommended
• The adjective forms of certain geographical names and also inhabitants' names
• are verified
• Original counterparts (endonyms) of polonised names (exonyms) are not given
• The new list is presented in alphabetical order.
