Names of Countries, Their Capitals and Inhabitants

The Commission on Standardization of Geographic Names Outside the Republic of Poland in 1997 published the first edition of Names of Countries Their Capitals and Inhabitants, comprising the names both of independent countries as well as non-self-governing and autonomous territories. The second edition appeared in 2003. During the four years which have elapsed since the previous edition numerous changes have occurred in geographical names, the principles of Romanization recommended in Poland of several languages using non-Roman alphabets were also changed. The third edition of Names of Countries, Their Capitals and Inhabitants was published in mid-2007 while the data it holds have been updated to mid-July 2007. This list names 193 independent countries, 72 non-self-governing territories and territories of undetermined or disputed status as well as 34 autonomous territories.
